SUMMER ENRICHMENT PROGRAMME FOR CLASSES VI, VII & VIII

Delhi Public School, Megacity, Kolkata organised a five-day summer enrichment programme from 11.05.26 to 15.05.25, for the students of Standards VI, VII, and VIII. More than two hundred and fifty students participated in this programme. The primary goal was to provide an experiential learning platform that encouraged creativity and helped students overcome fears while building self-sufficiency. The English department developed activities like comic strip creation, idiom art gallery, picture prompt conversation, dialogue writing etc., which were designed to promote effective communication, vocabulary development, and spontaneous speaking abilities. In Mathematics, The students were engaged in a number of mathematical operations to prove certain theorems and formulas. They also constructed 3-D models and prepared board games based on various mathematical concepts. During the History classes, the students were involved in activities which made them aware of the rules and regulations, amendments, writs, and responsibilities of a citizen as mentioned in the Constitution of India. They were asked to raise their concerns on the topics mentioned above and discuss their implementation. In Geography, the students virtually travelled to Greenland, The Kalahari Desert and the dense Congo region through videos and Power Point presentations that were based on unique geographical features, climate and culture of these places. They were further engaged in fun-based activities like solving jigsaw puzzles, quizzes, role play, brochure making and so on. Science sessions created an atmosphere of excitement and inquiry, encouraging students to think scientifically and ask probing questions. They enhanced students’ observation skills and made the learning experience enriching. The Bengali Department arranged activities where the students prepared their own scripts and enacted a play. Recitation was another activity planned for the students, where they expressed themselves through the medium of poetry. An interactive and enjoyable quiz-based activity was conducted in Hindi. Through creative rounds, language games and thought-provoking questions, students enthusiastically participated and showcased their knowledge and teamwork. ‘Art Expression’ sessions unlocked the creative potential of every child..The Mandala activity provided a calming and enjoyable ambience which allowed them to express their creativity in a unique and meaningful way, using varied materials and creating beautiful artworks, greeting cards, paper crafts, and more. Library: There were special screenings of short films to impart moral lessons, spark discussions and encourage emotional development. It also helped to foster empathy and reduce stress. In Aerobay, the students got a platform which helped them engage in science-based activities. The activity planned for the Summer Enrichment Programme included the mechanism of rockets and their launching. Dance was one of the most energetic activities of the programme. To promote improved coordination, channelize energy and reduce stress the students were engaged in Zumba sessions which blends dance and aerobics. The students also enthusiastically participated in different skill based indoor games in the ‘Gamology’ periods. To encourage students to explore healthy eating habits, understand nutritional values and develop independence in preparing food safely, ‘the Non-Flame Cooking’ session was organised on the last day of the session. It was followed by Sports workout like swimming, cricket and football and some computer programming for the ones seeking some indoor activity. The programme offered the students a transformative journey of learning, growth, and discovery. The students enthusiastically embraced new experiences, forged meaningful connections, and honed their talents and abilities. The summer enrichment programme brought together students and teachers in a shared celebration of learning and creativity. The participants concluded the programme armed with newfound skills, confidence, and a thirst for knowledge.
