DCP Bidhannagar unfurls National Flag as school marks India’s 80th Independence Day; celebrations echo the spirit of Har Ghar Tiranga 2026.

Delhi Public School Megacity, Kolkata celebrated India’s 80th Independence Day with patriotic fervour and cultural splendour on Thursday, 13th August, as the school community gathered to pay tribute to the nation’s freedom and unity.

The ceremonial proceedings began with the arrival of the Chief Guest, Shri Debraj Das, IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bidhannagar, and Guest of Honour, Shri Nandadulal Ghosh, WBPS, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic)-I, who were received with a Guard of Honour before proceeding to the flag post. Also present as a special guest was Md Ahsanullah Khan.

Shri Debraj Das hoisted the National Flag amid the singing of the National Song by the Senior School Choir, followed by the National Anthem, as the gathering stood in solemn tribute. This year’s celebrations carried special significance, coinciding with the Ministry of Culture’s Har Ghar Tiranga 2026 campaign, which marks five years of the movement and is dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram, bringing together the National Flag and the National Song as twin symbols of India’s identity.

The programme continued in Hall 1 with a Welcome Address, followed by a multilingual welcome extended by students in Bengali, Hindi, German and English, reflecting the school’s spirit of unity in diversity. The ceremonial lighting of the lamp, accompanied by the Ganesh Vandana, was followed by a soulful welcome song performed by the school’s Pre-Primary students.

Addressing the gathering, the school’s Academic Advisor, Mrs Indrani Sanyal, spoke on the significance of the occasion, following which the school felicitated its guests, Shri Debraj Das, Shri Nandadulal Ghosh and Md Ahsanullah Khan, along with members of the school’s management, in appreciation of their presence and continued support.

The celebrations were further enlivened by a series of cultural performances, including a dance by Pre-Primary students, a poem recitation and a spirited dance performance by Middle School students, each drawing warm applause from the audience.

The Chief Guest and Guest of Honour, both distinguished officers of the Indian and West Bengal Police Services, addressed the students, sharing insights from their professional journeys and encouraging them to imbibe the values of discipline, integrity and service to the nation and its growth.

The event concluded with the distribution of prizes to students for their achievements, followed by a Vote of Thanks by the Headmaster of Senior School, Dr Kalyan Basu, extended to the guests, the school’s management, staff, students and parents for making the celebration a memorable one.
